1. Can the license be shared with others (including other BU members)?

No, the transfer of the license is prohibited and it is licensed solely for your own use as a BU member. It must not be shared with anyone, even other BU members.

4. What is include in Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student?

Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student for PC includes:

Word 2016, Excel 2016,PowerPoint 2016, OneNote 2016, Access 2016, Publisher 2016, Outlook 2016, Skype for Business 2016, InfoPath 2016

Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student for Mac includes:

Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Outlook 2016, OneNote 2016

5. What is Skype for Business?

Skype for Business (previously called Lync) is an Instant Messaging (IM) client similar to other IM services or clients you might have used such as Skype, Google Hangout, or Facebook Messenger. It provides IM services, audio and video conversations, Skype for Business meetings and remote desktop control. You could also invites other parties (non-HKBU parties) to join audio and video conversations, Skype for Business meetings via web interface. The key difference with Skype for Business is that the IM service and contact list includes other HKBU Staff who have an active SSOid and and general Skype users. It also comes with the added advantage that IM sessions between Skype for Business clients/users is encrypted (i.e. secure) as it passes between clients. UserGuide

6. How long can I keep my license for Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student?

License will expire when a staff/student has left the University but read-ony access to Microsoft Office files will be retained. Any machines installed with the software must be connected to the Internet at least once every 30 days for verification of eligibility.

7. What does "Remaining install available" mean?

A staff/student can install the software in up to 5 machines. This is not applicable to mobile devices e.g. Android, IOS devices, Windows phone".

8. How many devices can I install the software on?

Staff/Student can use the Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student on their owned PC or Mac. And it allows you to install Microsoft Office on up to five computers.

This is not applicable to mobile devices e.g. Android, IOS devices, Windows phones.

Remark: To view/edit the Office files on mobile devices, You can install the Microsoft Office Mobile app from Google Play Store, Apple App Store for free but you have to sign-in with your own Microsoft ID rather than SSoId@link.hkbu.edu.hk.

9. Is this a full version of Office, available for offline use?

The software has the same features and functions as other versions of Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student and can be used offline

10. Can Office 2010 and Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student coexist on the same PC?    (Not upgrade from Office 2010 to Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student)

Yes. The licenses are independent.

11. Can office 2013 and Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student coexist on the same PC?

No. the Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student and Microsoft Office 2013 software cannot coexist. . Uninstalling any one of them will remove some common files resulting in the other not working. The best practice is to deactivate and uninstall current Office software before installing the Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff.

12. Can Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac and Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac coexist on the same Mac?

Yes, you can run both Office 2016 for Mac and Office for Mac 2011 at the same time. However, Microsoft recommends that you uninstall Office for Mac 2011 before you install the new version just to prevent any confusion.

No, there is no upgrade from Office for Mac 2011 to Office 2016 for Mac.

14. Does Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student include OneNote on Mac?

Yes. OneNote is bundled with the Office Professional Plus (Office for Mac 2016).

16. Can this Office Professional Plus Staff/Student be installed on office PCs?

No. The Office Professional Plus Staff/Student is for user's owned computer(s).
We do not recommend Office Professional Plus Staff/Student to be installed in office PCs since the license will be counted against the MS Campus license.

17. Why it always shows error during the activation/reactivation?

Please do ensure the system time is correct and time zone is being set to Hong Kong before proceeding with the activation/reactivation. And also ensure the login name is correct, the syntax should be
