1. Can the license being shared with others (including other BU members)?

No, the transfer of the license is prohibited and it is licensed solely for your own use as a BU members. It must not be shared with anyone, even other BU members.

4. What software include in Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student?

Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student for PC includes:

Word 2016, Excel 2016,PowerPoint 2016, OneNote 2016, Access 2016, Publisher 2016, Outlook 2016, Skype for Business 2016, InfoPath 2016

Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student for Mac includes:

Word 2016, Excel 2016, PowerPoint 2016, Outlook 2016, OneNote 2016

5. What is Skype for Business?

Skype for Business (previously called Lync) is an Instant Messaging (IM) client similar to other IM services or clients you might have used such as Skype, Google Hangout, or Facebook Messenger. It provides IM services, audio and video conversations, Skype for Business meetings and remote desktop control. You could also invites other parties (non-HKBU parties) to join audio and video conversations, Skype for Business meetings via web interface. The key difference with Skype for Business is that the IM service and contact list includes other HKBU Staff who have an active SSoID and and general Skype users. It also comes with the added advantage that IM sessions between Skype for Business clients/users is encrypted (i.e. secure) as it passes between clients. UserGuide

6. How long can I keep my license for Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student?



Staff/Student who resign or graduate will lose their licenses. When the license expires, Staff/Student retain read-only access to their Microsoft Office files.

The PCs/laptops installed Office Professional Plus must connect to the Internet once on every 30 days to verify they are still eligible for the program.

7. What does "Remaining install available mean"?

Concurrent 5 copies of Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student can be installed on 5 different Windows or Mac platform machines. This is not applicable to mobile devices e.g. Android, IOS devices, Windows phone".

8. How many devices can I install the software on?

Staff/Student can use the Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student on their owned PC or Mac. And it allows you to install Microsoft Office on up to five computers.

This is not applicable to mobile devices e.g. Android, IOS devices, Windows phones.

Remark: To view/edit the Office files on mobile devices, You can install the Microsoft Office Mobile app from Google Play Store, Apple App Store for free but you have to sign-in with your own Microsoft ID rather than SSoId@link.hkbu.edu.hk.

9. Is this a full version of Office, available for offline use?

The software has the same features and functions as other versions of Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student and can be used offline

10. Can Office 2010 and Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student coexist on the same PC?    (Not upgrade from Office 2010 to Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student)





Yes. The licenses do not overlap with each other

11. Can office 2013 and Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student coexist on the same PC?


No. the Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student or 2013 license will be overlapped each other. Uninstall either of them can cause the rest cannot be worked since all the related files are already removed. The best practice is to deactivate and uninstall current Office software before installing the Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff

12. Could Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac and Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac coexist on the same Mac?



Yes, you can run both Office 2016 for Mac and Office for Mac 2011 at the same time. However, Microsoft recommends that you uninstall Office for Mac 2011 before you install the new version just to prevent any confusion.

No, there is no upgrade from Office for Mac 2011 to Office 2016 for Mac.

14. Does Microsoft Office Professional Plus for Staff/Student include the OneNote on Mac?



Yes. OneNote is bundle with the Office Professional Plus (Office for Mac 2016).

16. Could this Office Professional Plus Staff/Student deploy on office PCs?

No. The Office Professional Plus Staff/Student is for user's owned computer(s).
We do not recommend the Office Professional Plus Staff/Student deploying on office PCs since the license will be counted on staff's account.

17. Why it always prompts error during the activation/reactivation?

Please do ensure the system time is correct and the time zone is being set to Hong Kong before proceeding the activation/reactivation. And also ensure the login name is correct, the syntax should be
